Tertiary and Immigrant Scholarships
The Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of Wellington is responsible for the granting of eight tertiary scholarships annually, each worth $3000. Six of these are funded by the Catholic Foundation itself, together with one CDF scholarship and the Mother Aubert scholarship. These scholarships are open to all senior students in Catholic Colleges within the Archdiocese and to Catholic students at non-Catholic Colleges where there is no Catholic College . The aim of the scholarships is to assist students in their first year at a New Zealand University or Polytechnic Institution aiming to achieve a Degree or Diploma.
Applications are made through their Colleges or Parish Priests respectively. Each College or Parish may nominate three students and all applications must be endorsed by the Principal or Senior Staff and Parish Priest.
Application forms are sent to all Catholic Colleges and Parishes early in September and applications close usually in the second week of October. Short listed candidates are interviewed later in October and Colleges or Parishes notified early in November.
In addition to these Scholarships there are a further two for students who are refugees to this country. These are the Halina Morrow Scholarships in memory of a Polish refugee who came to this country in 1944. The same conditions apply as for the other eight Scholarships.
The Scholarships are awarded at College Prizegivings or Parish Masses as appropriate. The Catholic Foundation reserves the right to publicise the name and photograph of each scholarship recipient in the Archdiocesan newspaper “Welcom".
